HORSESHOE CLEANING FAQ’s

How are horseshoes cleaned?

For rust free shoes that only require a general clean up you should soak the rust-free horseshoe in a solution of one-part bleach and four parts water for two or three minutes. Next you should completely dry and treat the shoe with a rust prevention product. Usually clipper or knife oil will work perfectly fine.

How to remove rust from horseshoes?

You will find that rust on a horseshoe is usually surface rust. This can be removed by using steel wool, a scrubbing pad, wire brush or sand paper. These abrasive products with some force and elbow grease will surely remove the majority of the rust stains. However, for very stubborn rust stains you can apply mineral oil or knife oil to further help in removing the rust.
